Dootdini…

We have a kitty, her name is Mackenzie but as with all pets, she goes by MANY nicknames… Mack, Baby Mack, Baby Girl, Dooters, Doots and a new one as of this week - Dootdini! I must explain the Dooters first before I continue…

Since the day that Mackenzie came home with us, she has strutted [and I mean John Travolta SNFever strutted!] and pranced about the house like she owns the joint. A clear, defining feature of this Baby Mack strut is her tail, pointing straight and tall towards the sky like a flag pole. One day, shortly after bringing her home to live with us, we remarked that you could almost hear her say, "Doot doot doot…"as she pranced down the hallway, tail proudly in the air. So… she was given the nickname "Dooters" and "Doots".

Anyways… Mackenzie is a very smart [sometimes too smart] kitty who possesses Houdini like skills - she’s an escape artist! Here is a prime example of how smart the little bugger is:

We had our carpets and furnace serviced and cleaned on Tuesday. So… with wet carpets and clumping litter, we naturally had to lock the kitties [Kodi and Mack] into a carpet-free room while the rugs dried. We put them in our upstairs office with the laminate flooring and went out for a few hours to run some errands, leaving them with food, water and a litter pan in case Mother Nature called…

Some 3 hours later, we come home. Immediately I go upstairs to release the inmates, and to my complete surprise, the office door is OPEN! Kitties are gone! No one was in the house, other than the kitties, when we left - so how did they get out? The knob on the office door is not long, handled [it’s a cylindrical style knob] and it’s got a pretty stiff spring inside for turning. So a little confused, I go back downstairs, turn to hubby Terry saying - "they’re not upstairs"…
"What?!?" he says. "You mean she opened the door?"
"I guess so… So where are they?" I replied and turned around to look in my art room/studio.

There they were, pleased as punch, sitting on their very large, very hairy, very loved cat "condo", grinning from ear to ear saying to us silently "Here we are! Aren’t we smart!"

Stunned, we looked at each other and proceeded to go upstairs to figure out our 4-legged Houdini’s escape route. It became apparent quickly…

Baby Mack has a routine in our office - basically she wants to be as high as possible in any given room she is in, at all times. We have a set of high shelving units and a tall CD stand immediately adjacent to the office door. We believe that our Houdini perched on the CD stand with her butt and back feet on the stand, placed her front paws on the door knob [which conveniently turned in the same direction as she was facing] and leaned forward on the knob until it turned. Presto! Dootdini has escaped from yet another room!!! Brilliant… and a little scary LOL =)

Our gentlemanly lemming Kodi is merely a follower… we KNEW who the real culprit was in the great escape - Dooters aka Dootdini, the Greatest Kitty Escape Artist in Richmond BC!

Stuck in the office…

Yep… working at the municipality office ON SUNDAY. Can you believe it?!?  I was planning on gardening this weekend, but it’s actually almost too hot for that today… so here I sit, editing a document that has been edited over and over and over again <sigh>. This issue seems like it’s never going to go to press…

On a happy note… the kids in the neighbourhood are definitely smart at ‘beating the heat’ and the slip ‘n’ slide was out down the street from our house. Loads of giggling, squealing and shrieks of joy/panic are all over the neighbourhood as resident 6 yr olds hurl themselves down a plastic, water soaked slide in an effort to cool off.

The Pacific Northwest is in the middle of a mini-heat wave - its about 30C/86F with high humidity, so those little buggers down the road have found the perfect solution. I just may have to join them this evening [if I ever get outta here!]… at the very least, Terry and I will have to run through our backyard sprinkler and have a water fight =)

have a great Sunday!

12 hour work day…
posted by: admin in Uncategorized on 06 22nd, 2006 | | No Comments »

Ridiculous…I work for a government agency, isn’t the stereotype supposed to be in a 9am leave at 5pm, no overtime?

Today I started at 8:15am and left at 8:15pm… not the average municipal workday by any stretch of the imagination with ‘expected’ workday is generally 7.5-8 hours, not my long 12 hours from today.

Anyways, I’m off to vegetate on the couch [my brain and eyeballs need a break from the monitor!] and watch whatever mind-numbing tv I can find. On night like this I miss Survivor <sigh>… there is nuthin’ like watching the train wreck of someone else’s life unfolding publicly to make you feel better about your own. Sad and cruel yes, but true!

Night all… and to my COR Peeps - keep the coffee and chocolate coming!

Let’s have a quickie…
posted by: admin in Uncategorized on 06 21st, 2006 | | No Comments »

HI… Here’s my ‘quickie’ post… Two words for you: I’m tired!
I have monumental overtime at work on the books for Thursday, Friday and Sunday… Ugh - pray for me and my sanity. I have already logged 20 hours for last weeks OT, so who knows what’ll happen over the next few days.

Ok… I’m off to bed… will post again tomorrow, even if it’s just a quickie like this one regarding my state of sanity, or insanity as the case may be.

CIAO for now…

The ultimate CHEESE…
posted by: admin in Uncategorized on 06 20th, 2006 | | 1 Comment »

Ok… now if you’ve been following my blog lately you’ll know two things:

  1. I’m over-worked, over-tired and over-stressed AND
  2. I’ve been having bad migraines due to aforementioned issues

So… in an effort to combat the above negativity, I have decided to share some truly spectacular CHEESE in the form of David Hasselhoff.

Yes, the ageless [BOTOX!], speedo wearing, German singing phenom David "BayWatch" Hasselhoff.  This little gem was bestowed on me this morning by a co-worker, who knows, understands and feels my work-stress-pain. It’s an audio and visual treat that you too must endulge in, especially if you’ve been having a bad day.

Here you go…

Did you know…

In addition to being an artsy-fartsy girl, that I’m a HUGE hockey fan? Yep, I am… and we have the pricey season-ticket to the Vancouver Canucks to prove it.

220740699330Well tonight was pure hockey nirvana… Stanley Cup Playoffs, final series, game 7. Doesn’t get much better than that for a hockey nut. The teams were playing with amazing energy and speed, and that’s impressive in itself if you know what kind of grueling schedule and physicality the Playoffs dictate; but tonight, in a fitting end to the 2006 Stanley Cup Playoffs, we were treated to one of the most fast paced, hard hitting games I have ever seen on tv or ‘live’.

They say that Lord Stanley’s Cup is the hardest and most challenging Cup to win in sports. It’s brutal on a physical AND pyschological level, demands intensity and commitment of untold proportions and in the end one team that has struggled and fought just as hard to win as the other, will end up losing. It sucks… and it’s one of the few times you see burly, tough, grown men cry openly and without shame.

Tonight the Cup winners were the Carolina Hurricanes… and although I may be labelled a ‘traitor’ by fellow Canadians, I didn’t cheer for the Edmonton Oilers [the lone Canadian team surviving after Round 2 of the Playoffs] I rooted for the Hurricanes.

The ‘Canes are a team of veterans and youth that include the likes of Doug Weight, Rod Brindamour, Eric Staahl… and this is why I cheered for them. Rod Brindamour a hockey star and beloved veteran of the sport has played for 15+ years and has never won a Stanley Cup; Bret Hedican [an ex-Vancouver Canuck] made it to Game 7 in 1994 with Vancouver, only to lose [no I’m not bitter!] to the New York Rangers on a crappy call; and Wessley a hockey veteran of 18 years has gone his entire career without a cup win as well. I wanted Carolina to win not because of the location of the team [USA]… I wanted them to win because of the players, character and talent on this hard-working team. Go ‘CANES Go!

Congrats to Carolina Hurricanes, you deserve it tonight… Edmonton Oilers, maybe next year…

Girl_2We have FINALLY begun to receive our shipment of clear stamps for the Poppet(R) Scrapbooking and Rubberstamp Collection, and will be packaging and processing all delayed orders for shipping on Thursday this week. The mfg of our Clear Stamps

Banner crazy…
posted by: admin in Uncategorized on 06 18th, 2006 | | No Comments »

Can’t seem to decide on a monthly banner…. thought I liked the last  one, but now I find it too dark and overwhelming.

I really like the painterly, ink blotched look of this one though [at least for now] and will try to leave it alone until the end of the month… thank god that is less than two weeks away, I think I can make it that long!

Quote for the day:

The more things change, the more they remain… insane.
