Thank God it’s Friday! I’m looking forward to lunch. We’re heading to the Flying Beaver for lunch, where I will probably have my favorite perogies for lunch [yummy!].

Did anyone watch the results show last night from Rockstar:SuperNova? I was bummed that Matt, the Duran Duran guy, got the boot. The lame dude who sang Roxanne, badly, was in the bottom 3 as expected, along with Matt and Phil. For Chris’ ‘redemption’ song, he sang the Doors song LA Woman, badly, again - his stage performance was good, but his vocals still sucked. Matt, the victim last night, sang a bottomed-out version of Planet Earth by Duran Duran; it was a BIG risk and the look on Newstead’s face said it all… SuperNova is going to be a hard rockin’ rock and roll band, NOT bubble-gum, 80’s pop like Duran Duran. Ultimately Matt’s decision to sing a DD song is what killed him. His vocals were much stronger than lame-O Chris’ [aka I can’t sing myself out of a paper bag], but his song choice and weak stage performance killed him.

A bit o’ drama surfaced last night around my favorite Lukas Rossi. He seems to like the ‘honest’ and dramatic truth… which irritated and pissed of the rest of the Rockstars, but garnered respect from Tommy Lee, Navarro, Newstead and Clark. Hmmm… can we say ‘gamesmanship’? Good for you Lukas… but watch your step!

Another one to watch in the competition is Dilana. Tattooed, pierced and FIERCE she is Lukas’ biggest competition at this point. She got the encore last night and is a favorite of SuperNova along with Lukas. Rossi… bettah watch your back!

Lesson learned by ALL RockStar peeps after Week One:
Don’t mess around with a classic and pick songs that SuperNova would either play, or want to hear!

Rockstar is baaaaaaaaack… this time with Tommy Lee, Gilby Clark and Jason Newstead [all ex-metalheads from successful bands] forming a new metal/rock band: SuperNova.

Last night was the first performance show of the season with all the rockers singing their brains out. The show had it’s high points [Lukas Rossi from Toronto singing Billy Idol’s Rebel Yell] and its loooooooow points [poor dude who sang Roxanne by Sting, and sang it very very badly!]. 

Based on last nights performances, I’m making my prediction right now that another homeless, under-the-bridge-living-Torontonian [aka JD Fortune Rockstar: INXS], Lukas Rossi will be the big winner.

Right now, Rossi is the guy to beat and he has it all… The great rock voice; funky, cool style; he’s a little weird [in a good way], stage presence and moves that make Tommy Lee look sober.  His version of Rebel Yell was amazing and the reaction from Tommy, Gilby, Jason and their producer said it all… "F**K Rockstar!" and then he basically pointed at Rossi as if to announce he had chosen his winner. Based on that, the reaction of the other contestants to Tommy Lee’s praise and host Dave Navarro’s reaction, it’s going to be a tough job ousting this cool Canadian.

Gotta say [and grudgingly admit] one thing… Tommy Lee looks almost hot with short, bed-head hair and with some meat on his skinny ass bones. Who knew? And don’t even get me started about Dave Navarro ;^)

Rockstar: SuperNova update… peace out!

Whilst working on various projects this weekend, Terry and I watched the entire first season of the HBO series Deadwood on DVD. I must say, it is an amazing series - if you can get past the vulgar language.

Now I went into the first episode of the series pretty sceptical. I had heard about how bad the language was, and the subject matter and to be honest… initially it didn’t appeal to me. BUT 20 minutes into the first episode I was hooked.

I think the real hook in this series is the fact that it is rooted in the real life history of the town Deadwood [which actually started as an illegal camp in the Black Hills of South Dakota - but I digress…] and the REAL characters that lived, worked and died there. Fascinating stuff. The writers of the show researched, researched and researched some more in the development of the storylines, making sure that characters were represented accurately, the town looked ‘right’ and that the events that occured in Deadwood were excuse the pun, bang on historically. The fact that Al Swearengen and Seth Bullock [two of the main characters] were REAL people and really lived in Deadwood makes them that much more interesting. They say that Swearengen’s saloon The Gem raked in between $4000-6000 a night in the late 1800’s!! That’s a lot of gold, drinking, gambling and prostitution changing hands back then.

The language is pretty bad, harsh and vulgar at times - but it is integral to the characters and the culture in that place, at that oparticular time. After a while, you do start to tune it out… once you get past the initial shock of it, but don’t let it stop you from watching the show. I would however caution you about WHO watches the show with you; you should probably NOT let anyone under 15/16yrs watch it with you!

Anyways… if you have a long weekend to kill with nothing on the go, I highly recommend the DVD series. It’s entertaining, educational and is a real eye opener. Get Deadwood… you’ll be hooked too. We’re now on the hunt for Season 2 and Season 3 is currently airing on HBO and local cable/movie channels in Canada.

Ok, it’s a confirmed truth that I am a clutz , accident prone and a danger to myself on a bicycle.
Well… I’ve proven that fact yet again as I had a MAJOR wipe-out on my bike yesterday afternoon [hence the lack of daily post!] and boy am I sore and bruised this morning!

CLUTZ: [Urban Dictionary def: Someone who is extremely careless, stupid and a hazard to be around.
Trips over shoes constantly, breaks anything he touches, should not be
alowed around heavy machinery or anything that might put other’s lives
in danger.]

I think it was the ‘kiss of death‘ comment I made to Terry yesterday that sealed my fate… You see, we bike ride from our house, down to the river and follow a spectacular dyke trail/boardwalk about 3 km to a large park on the mouth of the Fraser River. It’s a great ride, but for me there are two areas of caution that I have to be aware of… two bicycle barriers that force you to maneuver very carefully [and skillfully] around them. Technically, you are supposed to get OFF your bike to go through the barriers, we never do; consequently, I narrowly avoid getting smooshed by either the barrier itself or the signage directly beside it nearly every time we ride this trail.

Yesterday I traversed the barriers [both coming and going] with no problems at all and shouted out to Terry, ‘Hey honey! No wipe-outs!’

Well…that did it. Near the end of the ride, we come off the trail and onto the street. Yesterday, I thought I saw a car coming just as I was about to ride onto the road, so I quickly turned onto a grassy area next to the sidewalk. I hit a rut in the grass, lost control of my back wheel and basically careened towards a firehydrant near the edge of the sidewalk/road. I squeezed the brakes HARD, skidded out and landed [rather UNgracefully] on my side with handlebars jammed into my right thigh, right forearm smashed against the fire hydrant [to protect my head and face] in an ouchie heap.

First thing Terry says, "Honey, are you OK?"
"I think so… but is my arm broken?" I reply. He feels my arm…
"Nope… just a lump" he says laughing and smiling.

I started to laugh with him, asking him how stupid I must have looked from behind… were my arms and legs flailed in my decent towards the sidewalk and hydrant? All I could visualize at the time was my face heading into the hydrant, so the flailing arms that ensued to protect myself [HAH!] was not really clear in my head. I assumed I looked hilarious, and Terry’s laughter pretty much confirmed it.

This morning I woke up with a HUGE grapefruit sized bruise on my thigh [complete with lump and extreme tenderness] and a bruised, scraped right forearm… PLUS I have a headache from the stress on my body [must have wrenched my neck or something…]. Lovely. I ache from head to toe and feel like some beat me up in the night. Oh, wait… someone did beat me up - ME! Grrr…

So…  once again, I have confirmed it. I am now and always will be a CLUTZ! I have the bruises and pain to prove it.

Yes, I’m a day late for Canada Day, but with haircut appointments, bbq’s, fireworks and a new art project who can blame a girl.

I spent most of the evening yesterday and into this morning building, designing and completeing this 5×7, chipboard, mini-accordion album of my ‘niece’ Lauryn’s 7th Birthday party from early last month. I’ve been wanting to do this for weeks and now that things are settling down again [at least for a while!] I thought I would take the weekend to work on it. Who knew I’d hit my groove and would complete the whole thing in a day?
