Boo hoo…

Mm_idol_logo_3_5So, in the words of Heidi Klum "I’m out!" … of the MM Idol contest that is.

I knew that this is what would happen, I’m generally ok with that.

The MM Idol is, at the end of the 1st, 2nd and probably 3rd round, is in addition to a scrapbooking contest, a popularity contest.  In the scrapbooking world, the more people you know, the more groups you belong to and the more you self-promote, the better you do in these contests. Just like the show the contest is modelled after, American Idol. Sometimes the better singers get voted off because the other ones have a larger fan base. I’m not saying that I deserve to be there more than someone else… but there is definitely potential for a really outstanding piece of work, from an unknown artist who could be overlooked simply because you cast a vote for your friend, sister, etc…

For the most part I’m pretty cool with that.
I don’t frequent boards unless I’m lurking for a quick read when I have a few minutes to spare. I only post occasionally because I’m CRAZY busy most of the time and rarely get around to it. I don’t hang out at the Peas often, again… no time, since I basically work TWO full-time jobs. So I admit, I fly under the radar most of the time, coming up for air to occasionally say ‘hey, remember me?’, and to be honest… I’m really fine about it.

The ONLY suggestions I have to the above is that in order to make the contest really fair, and take the popularity out of it, have the Top 50 post their entries ANONYMOUSLY so that the notariety of the participants is a non-issue [or at least a smaller one]. The other suggestion I would have for the contest is to give people the opportunity to vote for more than ONE person - like 3 to 5 people. This way you could still choose the known person/popular scrapper, and then maybe, just maybe, give some of the other participants who aren’t as well known [if at all] a fighting chance. I know I personally would have chosen at least 3 layouts that were really outstanding [not my own] and in the judging scheme of things, I think it would make the whole contest a lot more interesting and challenging. Just a suggestion…

At the end of the day, I do have one thing to say about MM Idol and that is… I value and appreciate that they selected me to be part of the Top 50. It was encouraging and really validating to know that out of thousands of entries, one of mine stood out enough to be noticed and considered. For someone like me, who doesn’t enter contests, that felt really really good! I’m really very honored to have made it that far. So, THANK YOU MM Idol!

To the Next 30… good luck! and keep up the great work. I’ll be voting next week, and hope to see my favorite LAYOUT/PROJECT make it into the next round. You go girls!

Just released for the digiWERX product line are high-resolution, authentic vintage, 8×10 sheets of circa 1890 ledger paper courtesy Christina Lazar-Schuler’s large and private stash of vintage ephemera!

Here are the details:

These authentic, 8×10 vintage ledger book pages are from a selection of 1890’s ledgers that belonged to a doctor, a pharmacist and grocery store owner. They are literally a snapshot into the lives of regular and professional people from the 1890s. Read all about the prescriptions issued by the doctor and the pharmacists records keeping of dispensing and pricing. It is just so cool!

These 300dpi high resolution, scanned ledger sheets provide authentic, reproduction vintage design elements for heritage layouts, or can add a touch of vintage shabby chic to layouts and cards when juxtaposed against very graphic, modern pattern papers.

Use the ledger lines for journaling or punch with circle and square punches to create custom journaling spots… Have fun with these high-resolution, reproduction pieces of history!

Where did the week go?!?
posted by: admin in odds n ends on 03 3rd, 2007 | | No Comments »

Where did the week go? and how is it that it’s Saturday already?!? Geez…So the last few days has been made up of the following:

Wednesday:

  • Work was good. Had a Chicks with Sticks lunch meeting with the girlies. it was great and a nice way to kill an hour at lunchtime.
  • Furnace dewd came out to fix the pilot light. thank goodness it was ‘just’ the pilot light and thermocoupler. tuesday night and wednesday morning were chilly!
  • a new furnace right about now would suck, big time. but’s it’s all good, only $125 to fix the problem.

Thursday:

  • Picked up all the NEW Poppet(R) stamps, header cards, clear bags and other assorted goodness from Point Roberts at lunchtime.
  • It snowed. again. ’nuff said.
  • Then it rained. again. ’nuff said.
  • Knitted. again.
  • Packed orders. again.
  • Went to bed
  • It was a looooooong day.

Friday:

  • Dentist at 9am. Apparently I’m a ‘hygenist’s dream come true’ regarding my dental cleaning.
  • 1 teeny tiny cavity I have to get filled next month. it has been developing over the last 4 years. finally popped through. now we have to fill it. damnit.
  • I’m going to have to get a root canal sometime in the next 2-3 years. yay! not.  I injured my right front tooth [chipped 1/3 of it off] at the age of 9. apparently my canine/eye tooth on the same side sustained some sort of trauma at the same time eventhough I’ve never experienced any pain with it, and over the years [particulary in the last 2] the enamel has gradually begun to darken compared to my other teeth. basically there is nerve damage and pressure on the nerve is causing swelling and inflammation in the tooth… and because the nerve damage is progressing, the tooth will eventually die without a root canal. So imagine my shock and joy hearing that me, girl with only one teeny tiny filling in her ENTIRE mouth, is going to have to have a root canal on a tooth that doesn’t hurt, feel pain, or look to be in any danger other than the darkening enamel color and what the xrays tell us. nice. HAPPY FRIDAY!
  • Off to work. have a relatively good morning, having fun shooting foam disks at my office-mate… that was until my co-worker decides to be funny a blast off an airhorn in our shared office as retribution, accidently, right beside my left ear. suffice it to say, OUCH!
  • i yelled at him, peppered my shouting with a few f-bombs about how stupid blowing an airhorn in the office is and how badly that hurt my ear. he apologized profusely and suitably took the edge off both my ear-pain and temper with a Starbucks caramel macchiato and mandarin loaf. my pain, Starbucks gain.
  • IT fixed the video on my new 30" LCD monitor at the office. yep, i got’s me a huge 30" LCD monitor for my graphic design job with the City of Richmond. it’s the bomb. movie time in my office at lunch, everyday except Chicks with Sticks day, you bring the popcorn. cool.
  • came home with hubby after a yummy dinner of nando’s chicken [almost as good as El Pollo Loco]
  • finished knitting my second small bag while watching the devil wears prada with T. loved that movie. love the tiny bag i knitted. love my handsome hubby. will post photos tomorrow.

So… here we are on Saturday.

  • Got my haircut.
  • We did some house cleaning.
  • Hoping to hear from Gen and see if she is still coming over today. I don’t think she is at this point… I haven’t heard from her and by her blog post yesterday, she’s not feeling so good. Maybe next weekend if not today.

That’s it peeps.. off to the studio to continue packaging Poppet(R) goodies. Catch you tomorrow =)
