Durga Interiors Inspiration
posted by: admin in fresh friday mosaics on 08 31st, 2007 | | No Comments »

I’ve been working on our friends’ business website and helping out by taking photos of their cool home… these shots were taken at scott and ray’s home last weekend and are a great example of the type of store they have created in vancouver: durga interiors - indian antiques, textiles and home decor.

durga interiors is about bringing indian and pakistani antiques into the modern home. juxtaposing the ancient and antique with current, trendy decor. adding ethnic flavour and spicing up our typical spec. home interiors. with a lick of paint, an incredible antique indian chest or cabinet, and a luxurious fabric throw… your interior can go from everyday ho-hum to exotic vavoom!

the guys are not only sellers of these incredible antiques, but are avid collectors themselves and shooting their lovely home was a opportunity for us to share how easily indian antiques can be incorporated into everyday, modern interiors. they live their mantra of everyday exotic and their very typical home is a perfecet example of the warmth and character indian antiques can added to home decor.

if you live in the vancouver area, check out their store durga interiors on 4th avenue and visit their website if you are not in town, the guys will ship anything virtually anywhere, just visit their website and email them any inquiries you may have. their new container of anitque yumminess is arriving any day from india… so stop by their store soon!

enjoy the eye candy…

A couple more slices of ‘cake’
posted by: admin in ETSY on 08 27th, 2007 | | 3 Comments »

i finished my Marie Antoinette triptych today and uploaded the frothy, candy-colored collage to ETSY. now i’ll just have to wait and see if she sells.

i secretly hope not. i love this series. such fun colours and loads of texture both visually and tactilely.

terry like this series too, so much he’s encouraged me to hang it up here at home… so now it’s hanging in my upstairs hallway where i can see it from the living room and everytime i walk down the hallway. love that. love that he is so supportive and enjoys my art too. i’m a lucky, lucky girl.

here they are…

i’m working on a fun series of collages right now… 10×10 cradled hardboard canvasses [now my favorite canvas].

the collages are evolving into a triptych of Marie Antoinette yumminess. the background includes vintage ledger paper, french apothecary labels, old book pages and vintage letters. the entire piece is then washed in lovely colour.

i love the candy-coloured palette of these pieces with their sorbet pinks, violets and yellows. so yummy! just like the clothes and shoes in the marie antoinette movie by sofia coppolla. seriously. i love that movie… complete and utter eye candy. i could just have it running in the background all day long <sigh>.

the first of three panels from the triptych has been posted on ETSY and the other two will follow over the next few days. enjoy.

i hope you like them.

Summer Sundaes and Sandwiches
posted by: admin in fresh friday mosaics on 08 24th, 2007 | | No Comments »

last night i noticed it. there was a coolness to the slight breeze blowing through the window. summer is winding down.  so in honor of what seems like the shortest season of the year [and truth be told, it’s not my favorite - i hate swimsuits], i thought i would acknowledge my favorite part of it - ice cream!

i really can’t justify ice cream to myself in the middle of winter, but come summer, no problems there LOL! my favorite ice cream is from two local landmarks… the old DQ on steveston highway [10 city blocks from my house] and Timothy’s Gelato at garry point park in steveston.

at DQ it is all about the georgia mudfudge blizzard. terry’s favorite. it’s a super thick, spoon-required ice cream shake made with soft serve DQ icecream, fudge, pecans, caramel and brownie bits. so good!

Timothy’s is a homemade gelato shop that has been in steveston forever. my absolute, die-hard favorite is the double chocolate fudge gelato [double scoop - of course] in a fresh, warm waffle cone. mmmmmm… sinfully indulgent chocolate in the ultimate cone. a true luxury that i only indulge in a few times a year and i savor every lick and drop of that yummy deep, dark, rich chocolate. it’s the ulitmate chocoholic’s fix =)

so people, get an ice cream cone, sundae or sandwich and enjoy what’s left of the summer… it’ll be over before we know it.

look how much my little furgirl has grown, she’s gotten so big! we’ve had her for over 7 months and her personality has become so evident and clear.

she LOVES to cuddle, sleep in our laps while we’re working/playing on the computer. she loves her food - especially chicken! she has a very distinct sweetness and gentleness about her, almost a daintiness. she can be very delicate when she wants to be [but can also be a bull in a china shop!]. she’s exceptionally friendly, calm and enjoys people, even young kids that run screaming around her. most family and friends have staked their claims on her, saying they plan on stealing her… we have to check everyone’s coats before they leave the house LOL!

we’re so lucky to have found her… and although i miss my mackenzie everyday, i firmly believe that mackenzie’s illness and subsequent early passing happened because we were meant to have this kitty.

i think my mackmack sent us lulu. so thank you mackie… you sent us a lovely, sweet and mischievous girl. she isn’t you, but whenever we think of how lulu came into our lives, we always remember it’s because you made room for her.

I NEVER post photos of myself. Well, rarely. But today… in honor of the first NEW pair of glasses I’ve had in 5 years, I decided to share my goofy face with you.

CAUTION: The following image may cause seizures!

Goof

Nice glasses huh? Gotta love what spending $700CAD will get ya!
Mind you, our health benefits through work will pay me back for $500 - so $200 really ain’t that bad.

i finished off the last 4 collages this evening and they are available on ETSY for your viewing [and buying] pleasure.

i’m loving the way these came together. great color, great texture and [imho] i think they turned out really beautiful. hope you all think so too.

i’m now working on 3-4 10×10 hardboard canvasses [these canvasses are so great and love the rigid quality of the support!]. these new pieces should be available soon, hopefully in a few days or later this week.

carmi: i know you’re reading this… start watching for a ‘french’ parisienne theme =) get those croissants and that lovely french loose tea ready!

in the meantime, GO SHOPPING. buy some art and enjoy the eye candy!

New artwork finally available…
posted by: admin in ETSY on 08 19th, 2007 | | 2 Comments »

hello on a lovely sunday afternoon, from mixed up, confused [weather wise] richmond bc!

Turqoise05

well, i’ve finally finished some of the artwork i’ve had on my studio tables and they are now available on ETSY. i’ve posted 3 new quartet collages and have 4 other pieces almost ready for photographing and posting this evening.

recently, i’ve been working with vintage and stock fashion image transfers and i gotta say that i just love the juxtaposition of the beauty shots with old papers, vintage looking rub-ons, glazed colours and image transfers. so yummy! through the processes i’ve used, i been able to create really rich, layered pieces that [imho] are interesting, unique and hold a slightly mysterious and romantic quality about them.

three things in collage are really important to me:

  1. colour - it’s gotta be rich. yummy. wanna-dive- into good.
  2. texture - visual or actual touchable texture, it’s gotta be there
  3. text - subtle or in your face. it can speak volumes without saying a word. love that.

i hope you like them!
