sucks to be me… today.

diagnostic results came back. gall stones. lots of them. too many to pulverise successfully and guarantee they’ll pass. so… this means surgery.

and too many stones means not just a de-gravelling of my gallbladder…they’re going to take out the whole kit and kaboodle. yay! not!

to tell the truth i’m a little freaked out. but it’ll be ok. <breathe deeply> it’s going to be ok… but i’ve never had surgery before. i’ve never even been unconscious. this is the main reason i’m freaking a little bit. the fear of the unknown and fear of what will happen. so… for the next 6-8 weeks until i have surgery i will be doing the following:

  1. maintaining my bland, sucka$$ diet
  2. learning breathing technique to regulate my stress and post-op recovery anxiety
  3. trying to relax and not freak out about stuff i really can’t control

in the end this is a good thing. my gallbadder being taken out means no more painful attacks at 3am. no more back and side pain for days on end. no more nasty a$$ indigestion at the most inopportune times.

whew! it’s gonna be a long, uncomfortable summer…

  • hang in there. I had my gallbladder removed back in 1998 I was 25 and it took me almost a year to get an accurate diagnosis. hope you heal quickly

    Crappy news – for sure!
But you’ll pull through just fine and recovery will be quicker than you think.
The good thing is this will force you to slow down!
Do some art just because – just for you and without any deadlines. It will make you happy and take your mind off your troubles!
    One day at a time…

  • Yeah, that’s sucky news, but it really is an easy surgery – as far as surgery goes. They just pull it out through a little incision that you will hardly notice one it is healed. I am sure that now you are telling people you will find that everyone and their grandmother has had their gallbladder removed. Sill it is your body and YOUR gallbladder and you have a right to be anxious. Ali’s motto has become my mantra. It is ok.

  • My SIL had her gallbladder removed when she was in her 20s (she’s in her 30s now) and she was just fine AND YOU WILL BE TOO! A chance to slow down and do some art, enjoy just sitting in a garden, etc. Hospitals always cause freak-out-time though; I understand completely.

  • Bummer … I can honestly say, the surgery was very easy … and I felt so so so much better afterward. The breathing technique is a good one to have in your arsenal … just stay in the moment and try not to let the worry invade too much.

the surgery is very mild and you won’t take long to recover. 3 small incisions to remove it. Had mine in 2000, it went very well. I miss the “diet” of losing 48 pounds in 8 months with the pain but diet is overrated when you can’t eat past 12pm! You will be just fine!
