wow… been a while…

I didn’t realize it had been over a week since my last post! wow, being sick and in bed for days can totally screw with your scheduling. then back to work for a short work week and having loads dumped on you all at once can kinda hamstring you schedule-wise again, but never fear… I’m back!

spent this weekend taking a great photography course [2-day intensive!] at Vancouver Photo Workshops Studio in downtown Vancouver on Saturday and Sunday. GREAT course. run, don’t walk, to sign up for their workshops. the quality of instruction is excellent and the instructors are equally great – friendly, approachable, and very very knowledgeable.

this particular workshop covered some areas my photography skills needed help with – indoor and event lighting in poor conditions. since I’m a primarily ‘available’ lighting  kinda girl [aka natural lighting] this was a huge thing for me to learn about. indoor studio lighting was covered as was indoor/outdoor fill and portable lighting using off-camera flashes, softboxes, etc. the difference in my confidence and knowledge with lighting after yesterday is huge! now I need some new equipment, obviously, LOL! it never fails huh? but the results are well worth the $$ and effort.

the other ‘creative’ area we covered was HDR and XDR photography. can i just say WOW!!! I’m in love with HDR. it’s so cool and can go from extreme painterly effects with light and dynamic range to subtle enhancements in difficult shooting situations. I have only a few examples so far, but this is something I will definitely be experimenting with, alot, in the next little while.

I have lots of photos to edit and dig through today, so a post with examples of the techniques learned will be posted soon. possibly later today. check back soon to see what YOU can learn through the Vancouver Photo Workshops programs.
