First off… HAPPY NEW YEAR my friends!!
The new year came in and blew by me with a flurry of activity, migraine and too much to do!Before I knew it, it was January 3 and I hadn’t blogged for weeks… So I’m here to correct that =)
On New Year’s Eve, we opted to stay home since my head was on the verge of multiple migraine explosions and we thought it best for me to stay put, near my bed and icebag. We watched a hockey game, a couple of movies and I snoozed on and off while couch surfing. Yeah… I lead an exciting life LOL!
We have had some fun though in the week between Christmas and New Year… We shopped in the USA and stimulated the American economy; gambled at the ‘friendliest casino in Washington’ and left with twice $$ that we came in with; we ate – a lot! – and now I have to de-sugar and detox my bod for the new year; and now with 2010 firmly begun, I have 39 days until the biggest party in Vancouver begins – the Olympics!
The volume of ‘to-dos’ on my list is enormous…
- there is much work to be completed, supervised and installed in the form of OZone signage about the City of Richmond;
- I have to pick-up my VANOC Volunteer uniform [which for my colouring should look cute] and attend two more training sessions at the Oval as Press Tribune supervisor;
- I have two graphic design free-lance jobs that are near completion and I have to oversee installation of said projects – one is the old/newly redeveloped Woodward’s windows in Vancouver [10 - 6'x7' lighbox windows with collage style graphics and artwork!]; and last but not least,
- I have a commissioned artwork in progress and will be completing it in the next couple of weeks.
Can I just say WOW… The volume of to-do’s is daunting!
2010 is about new things and new directions for me.
- I am continuing a few things like healthy lifestyle [although you wouldn't know that lately LOL!] and taking care of myself physically
- Maintaining balance in homelife and career/business is going to be a strong theme, but will be tough to completely achieve over the next few weeks leading up to the Winter Games since work is insane and I’m an official VANOC volunteer
- More art and less ‘working’ at selling it… Feeding the creative soul. I know, it’s an odd thing to say, but I believe that now I have to focus my energies on creating and expanding my techniques and less time on where I’m going to sell everything I create. By doing more art and selling/moving less of it, it becomes more real and substantial. I’m going to focus on the journey and creating and less about where/who is going to take it off my hands. All things will evolve in that department naturally I hope, and if not… perhaps a 5 day stint at Circle Craft as a mixed media artist will be in my future and I’ll be able to blitz sell all my pieces ;^)
- MORE photography. I love that as a learning and skill-developing photographer that I control my schedule. I shoot when I want to. I shoot who and what I want to and in the end I control how much, or how little, I participate in this art form. Again… It’s about creating art. Feeding the creative soul.
- Read more photography books. I am so enamoured with industrial landscape photography at the moment… Particularly Ed Burtynsky – who is BRILLIANT and one of the most important Canadian landscape photographers today. His, and others like him, inspire me. They inspire to look at things differently. I believe that this will affect my artwork in the future… I’m not sure how, but I think it will…
So there is a lot for me to say today after 3+ weeks of absence… LOL! You just had to know I’d have verbal diarrhea after a 3 week absence LOL! As to more frequent posts, I can’t promise anything at the moment. I will, in all likelyhood, hunker down and be a little AWOL for the next few weeks from my blog – again. The impending crazy-ass, fun, chaotic, party-time known as the Olympics is looming, but I will try to post at least weekly if I am able. I will be tweeting more than posting, so watch for updates on my Twitter page. I won’t be able to post images from the SpeedSkating oval since that is an infringement of IOC copyright, but I will be tweeting and blogging about my experiences as a volunteer… Stay tuned for that!
Once again… Happy New Year friends and I hope that 2010 brings you all the good things you wish for.
Hugs, C
