Stephen Colbert will officially be allowed to cover the Olympics!!!

Ok… so many of you have probably heard about the throw down between Richmond and the Colbert Report. The City of Richmond had invited Stephen Colbert to be an official Ombudsman at the Speed Skating venue and offered him this role to ensure that US Speed Skaters were treated ‘fairly’ after Colbert ‘accused’ Richmond of not allowing US athletes practice time on our ice.

After much anticipation, Colbert announced that he would be coming to Richmond; however, due to press rules at the Olympics [accredited press vs. non-accredited], he wouldn’t be allowed to cover the events ‘officially’ and would only be able to report on events outside the venue and away from any Olympic sites. Since the network that runs his show is non-accredited, permission to video or do reporting wouldn’t be allowed.

Today, on the Colbert Report, it was announced that NBC was making Stephen Colbert part of their Winter 2010 Team [NBC is the official accredited US broadcaster for the Games] which means… that Stephen Colbert can and WILL be covering the Olympics from the Richmond Olympic Oval [aka: ROO]!!!! Whaaa? YES! That means that one of my favorite tv personalities, Stephen Colbert, will not only be in Richmond as an ‘ombudsman’, but that he’ll be likely to visit the Press Tribune area of ROO, which means I will hopefully get to meet him. Or at least SEE him in person. I cannot wait! This is so cool…

I love Colbert. He’s funny, sarcastic, completely original and goes places that no other political ‘pundit’ has gone before. His last schtick has been his attempts to get on the official US Olympic Team in some sport capacity. He’s tried Bob Sleigh, Speed Skating and more… My favorite though is his Curling try-out. Need a laugh? Watch this…
