shoes, funky and cute shoes…

I’m always on the search for the new shoe in my life… Well, this Spring, wedges and platforms are still the rage, and since they are so comfy, I decided I needed another pair. Here is what I found on eBay…
Cute huh?

Shoe OCD strikes again…

After having to return my wonderfully comfortable and stylish Harley Davidson boots [mfg. defect!] to Zappos.com, I have been fruitlessly ‘trying’ to find a nice, sharp looking pair of flat knee-high black boots for wearing with my skinny jean leggings and skirts. BUT I’m petite, actually HAVE a calf-muscle [thank you cycling and yoga] and so hard to find something that will zip up! I have almost given up. So… to placate my need for new footwear, I have found these crazy ass shoes on eBay:

The crazy thing is though that as I ‘trolled’ through the boots and shoes at my favorite online footwear store [www.endless.com] I came across these Sam Edelman platform booties on the right. At more than FIVE TIMES the price I paid on eBay!!!

Now  the shoes that I bought are knock-offs [uh duh!] and come directly from the factory, BUT the reviews on eBay about the shoes and seller were very favorable. Let’s hope that eBay comes through and that these killer platforms live up to my expectations… If not, at least I didn’t spend $350 on them LOL!

H & M – a new favorite in my quest for new Fall fashion…

I am starting to really love H & M clothing. I only wish that there was one in my ‘burb instead of me having to travel into Vancouver for a fix LOL! I got the cutest sweater dress there a few weeks ago and now I’m hooked.

The clothes are well made [for the price] and fashion forward without screaming I’m only good for one season. The only downside is that the ‘cut’ of the clothes tend to fit on the smallish size so even though I’m a 6-petite now, I have to get an 8. But that makes sense if you think about it… H & M is geared towards the ‘junior’ fashion crowd and as such they don’t seem to account for hips and boobs in some of their clothing. Or at least not very big hips and boobs… I may be a lot smaller than I was a few months ago, but I still have T & A to consider LOL!

Here is my latest look obsession… Denim with an ankle boot, grey cardi and tunic top. Love it. It’s great for work and casual days! Ahhhh… Fall, it’s my favorite season in fashion. Lots of thin layers, great colours and cozy knits. The great thing is that in Vancouver, we usually don’t have to worry about dressing too much heavier than ‘fall’ in winter. Lots of rain yes, but it’s usually not too cold [if you block out our 2008/2009 Winter and forget about the 3' of snow we got!] so Fall clothes usually can go the distance throughout the season until we hit Spring.

It’s been fun having to buy an entirely new wardrobe since I lost at that weight… but it’s becoming entirely too expensive LOL!

i think that i may be OCD…

well, that’s what a few people I know are thinking right about now.  I’m pretty sure they are convinced that I’m OCD and I think I’m beginning to believe it myself… I’m obsessed with two things at the moment [well, 3 if you count counting ounces of veggies and proteins an obsession!] – shoes and spray paint.

Obsession No. 1 – Sugar for Shoes

I have posted in the past about my obsession with shoes. “I gave up Sugar for Shoes” is my new mantra and motto.  Since my Dr. B diet began, I have been severely sugar deprived. Absolutely NOTHING white in my diet is allowed except cauliflower. Woo hoo exciting… NOT! So, I blame my sugar for shoes conversion purely on the lack of sugar in my blood stream and my inability to completely shake free of it’s deliciously sweet, tasty, fattening grip.  If I had a personal logo hanging about my head/neck, it would contain the tagline below.

” She gave up Sugar for Shoes”

Nine West ICEAGE Shootie

Nine West ICEAGE 'Shootie'

This is sad. and yes, I know it. But come on, its shoes not heroin! And ladies, you KNOW how you feel when you see a lovely pair of heels just daring you to walk away from them [or in my case, click away] and leave them on the shelf/auction. Unbought and unloved… I’m doing them a favor buying them LOL! Yes, yes… I know I’m delusional <sigh> but what can I say, I’m sugar deprived and need to fill that tasty void in my diet with tasty shoes for my feet =)

Here is my latest obsession target, spotted last night at the mall while out with my hubby.  The Nine West ICEAGE bootie. Are these not the hottest, coolest looking boot/shoes [aka 'shooties'] you’ve seen? LOVE THEM. I must have them. They must come home with me. But I’m NOT paying $225 for them. Nope… I will be patient. I will bide my time and will wait until some seller on eBay lists them, in a size 6.5 or 7 if you please, in gray and at a reasonable $100-125. Here is a pic of them. Aren’t they fun?

BONUS: The will make me 5′5″ with the platform sole and heel combined! Yay… a few extra inches never hurt anyone, especially a shorty like me!

Obsession No. 2 -  Spray art/graffiti/stencilling

Kylon H20 spray paint

Kylon H20 spray paint

Yep… The class I signed up for has started [today is Week 1] and I’m pretty much focussed on what spray inks/paints I’m buying this weekend, setting up a ’spray table’ outside so I don’t pollute my house [and bodies of those I'm living with] with fumes and toxic-junk, picking up cool found ’stencils’ and building a Art Journal/Spray Journal portfolio. I’ve stencilled and created abstract backgrounds for years… but the addition of spraypaint is new and has hugely exciting possibilities.

  • I plan on taking the weekend OFF the computer and abandoning eBay for a few days.
  • I plan on incorporating the graffiti/spray art in my canvas giclees and in my mixed media collages.
  • I plan on creating funky backgrounds and sprayed textures that could be used as digital/hybrid media in scrapbooking, paper arts and collage. More on that later…
  • I plan on spending tomorrow cleaning my house and doing all the usual domestic weekend chores so that I can spend the following 4 DAYS I have off work playing with spray paint, acrylic paint and paper in my backyard!
  • Then… I plan on scanning a bunch of my experiments with spray paint and sharing them with you. Here. Sometime next week.

Well, that is my plan. Let’s just see if my obsessive personality had handle a few days NOT shoe bargin-hunting on eBay and if I can just feed one obsession at a time LOL! I am a pretty damn proficient multi-tasker so doing both are definitely within the realm of possibility, but a few days not shopping and swapping sugar for shoes is probably a good thing. Maybe I can swap sugar for spray[paint]? I think that is an excellent compromise. Yay me! and boo sugar!

wow… been a while…

I didn’t realize it had been over a week since my last post! wow, being sick and in bed for days can totally screw with your scheduling. then back to work for a short work week and having loads dumped on you all at once can kinda hamstring you schedule-wise again, but never fear… I’m back!

spent this weekend taking a great photography course [2-day intensive!] at Vancouver Photo Workshops Studio in downtown Vancouver on Saturday and Sunday. GREAT course. run, don’t walk, to sign up for their workshops. the quality of instruction is excellent and the instructors are equally great – friendly, approachable, and very very knowledgeable.

this particular workshop covered some areas my photography skills needed help with – indoor and event lighting in poor conditions. since I’m a primarily ‘available’ lighting  kinda girl [aka natural lighting] this was a huge thing for me to learn about. indoor studio lighting was covered as was indoor/outdoor fill and portable lighting using off-camera flashes, softboxes, etc. the difference in my confidence and knowledge with lighting after yesterday is huge! now I need some new equipment, obviously, LOL! it never fails huh? but the results are well worth the $$ and effort.

the other ‘creative’ area we covered was HDR and XDR photography. can i just say WOW!!! I’m in love with HDR. it’s so cool and can go from extreme painterly effects with light and dynamic range to subtle enhancements in difficult shooting situations. I have only a few examples so far, but this is something I will definitely be experimenting with, alot, in the next little while.

I have lots of photos to edit and dig through today, so a post with examples of the techniques learned will be posted soon. possibly later today. check back soon to see what YOU can learn through the Vancouver Photo Workshops programs.

vice shmice!

shoeI have given up many vices in my bid to lose weight and get myself healthy… Potatoes [my kryptonite!], rice, pasta, breads, dairy, chocolate, alchyhol and of course the biggest one of all – sugar.

Well, lately seems as if I replaced one major vice for another -> sugar for shoes. LOL!
So, not surprisingly when I stopped by Richmond Centre to pick up some tea from the health food store, I just had to stop by Aldo Shoes and picked up these spring/ summer sandals today – so cute! and I can show off my wicked cool, pewter metallic pedicure too – bonus =)

I also want these from Steve Madden shoes… so cute! and YES! very high… I love the platform. They are surprisingly comfortable and make me at least 5′4″ on a good hair day =)

I love shoes… <sigh>

no new shoes for me…

Oh poo!

I didn’t get the job. I’m really really disappointed and more than a little shocked [as are most of the people in my office, who know me and my work, and of course, T]. Read the rest of this entry »

These Fluevog shoes and boots…

Fluevog Melania ShoesandFluevog Nico Boots

Maybe if I get the new job I’ll splurge and buy one of these yummy yummy shoes… afterall, I can’t be wearing crocs at City Hall now can I? A perfectly rationale justification for new shoes I think [insert evil laugh here!]

I find out tomorrow about the job… and then will decide if new shoes are warranted. Wish me luck people. I WANT those boots!!
