posted by: christina in Uncategorized on 04 27th, 2008 | | 4 Comments »

hope everyone is having a great weekend so far =)

I’m just finishing off some cool new digital mixed media collages featuring my latest spring floral photos. i’ll be posting these on etsy as limited edition reproductions on canvas soon, but i thought i’d give you, my loyal blog readers, a sneak peek…

Blue Floral

there are two more pieces in the works and should be listed in my etsy shop later on this week. i’ll also be re-listing my first 6 digital mixed media collages, editions 3 of 25, at the same time. so watch for those by thursday…

have a few more textile anthology kits to finish off today then shipping early next week… whew! who knew those yummy fabric kits would be so popular? here’s what’s on deck for this afternoon:

  • finish transferring images for the kits to be shipped
  • order more grosgrain and velvet ribbon for kits
  • finish bottling the 200 vials of new, gorgeous 6/0 seed beads i purchased on thursday - anyone interested in just purchasing beads for their projects? let me know and i’ll post a few sets in etsy.
  • my new amy butler fabric arrived on friday and it is pure fabulousness. i will be cutting this down later today or tomorrow once i’ve finished my kit packing
  • post a new image transfer online video - this will feature inkjet prints and alcohol. very cool!
  • start a new textile anthology project for my friend [if i get the chance]

so my peeps… i’m off to shower, get my hair cut, drop off some artwork at a collector’s home and then back down to the studio for some kitting and cutting.

have a great afternoon… catch you tomorrow!

Thank you so much - that really gives me heart to have a go. Seeing makes such a difference. Carol

Thank
you for the video!! So nice to see it in action for those of us who
have a hard time finding a local workshop. How does this work for
polymer clay?? Thanks for your feedback !! Helen

Wow…thank
you SOOO much for this video tutorial. I am a visual learner, so this
helped me get brave enough to try this technique again. ~Susan

Beautifully done demo! Thanks.  : -)

Thank you, that was so straight forward and best of all free, you are too kind. Great quality work and info.

Thank you so much for the great info..clear and concise!

awesome videos, clear view, great explanation, awesome results.

are you working with pigment or dye based inkjet printouts?

Thanks for providing this excellent demo.   Where can I buy the Apollo transperencies in Canada?

Thanks Patt

Great video, thanks so much.
Is the transfer on fabric washable? I’ve mostly transferred to fabric
using the paper-backed fabrics that run through the printer!
I have a line of vintage images on CD that I sell at the quilt shows
and on my website so I’m always looking for new ways to use my product.
Thanks for another venue!!

Thanks,
Patti

Thank you
I was on the waiting list for the transfer class at Ruby Dog just a
while back. I am heading into Vancouver and would love to pick up some
of the acrylic gel down at Chroma. Would I be able to use it if I was
going to do transfers onto paper or canvas frames too? or would I need
to use the gel medium?

As well, where you do get your transparencies from?

Thank you for making these videos. They were clear and concise; very informative and easy to follow.

Q&A about the image transfer process…
posted by: admin in Uncategorized on 03 21st, 2008 | | Comments Off

since my post went up i’ve had a few questions. since these are question that may be universally helpful, i’ll answer them here.

  • How does this work for polymer clay??
not sure. i would think that if you left it [the transparency] on the polymer long so that it had time to bond to its non-porous surface that it would work. give it a try and let us know!
  • are you working with pigment or dye based inkjet printouts?
i’m working with pigment based epson durabrite inks on an epson C88 printer. have used other printers in the past, but the durabrite inks have consistently given me the best results.
  • Where can I buy the Apollo transperencies in Canada?
you can purchase apollo transparencies through office depot canada. it’s not listed on their website, but i have been able to consistently purchase these transparencies through my local richmond, bc store. you could also google apollo inkjet transparencies and you’ll get a listing of online store that carry it, mail ordering it is the cheapest way to get it.

additional questions will be answered as the arrive =)

mother nature is truly amazing… and while this isn’t an artistic inspiration per se, it does bring warmth and love to my heart. and that my friends is always a good thing!

a friend emailed this collection of photos to me. apparently a mother daschund is fostering a baby pig. his name is ‘pink’, for obvious reasons, but also because pig+tinkerbell [tink] = pink.

she is fostering this guy for another mom who couldn’t take care of him.  he is just a little bigger than her other pups, but she genuinely seems to love this little guy as much, if not more than the other puppies. she is nursing him back to health and apparently is the cleanest puppy ever because she licks him all the time. cute!

Untitled8_2

fuzzy wuzzy pink and the puppies nursing. apparently he is living up to his species’ rep and is a bit of a pig - he nurses all the time! lol =)

Untitled6

sleeping with his puppy-siblings. i mean really. how can you contain your ‘awwwwwwws’?? the pink piglet fuzzies are just too cute! he glistens in fuzzy wuzziness…

Untitled5

Untitled4

mom is very protective and snuggles often with her little pink ‘pup’

Untitled3

Untitled2

ok everyone… say awwwwwwwwwwwwww… is that not the cutest thing you seen for a while?? so adorable!

it just goes to show that mother nature is a wondrous and magical thing. i mean come on… clearly the little pink guy is very different from that momma’s pups, but she doesn’t care one little bit. i wish more of the world viewed life like this generous and loving mom. she’s an example that more people should follow - generous, loving and without discrimination.

well, on that warm and fuzzy note, have a great weekend people! i’m teaching a full-day class on sunday so you probably won’t hear from me until early next week between class-prep, teaching and recovering from a full-day of teaching lol. catch you all on monday!

thanks to everyone who made it down to our sale last week/weekend! it’s super to see all of you…

we’re going to be extending our UM rubberstamp sale for a while longer and will be running a buy 3 get the 4th one free until the end of november. that means that ANY of our UM stamps [including paper artsy, catslife, purple onion and of course our own line elements] are are just about 25% off if you buy 4 stamps. that’s a great deal and we still have some of our cool new holiday stamps available!

i’m also in heavy production mode for two upcoming art shows that i’m selling my original artwork at. lots of artwork and new pieces are being developed specifically for these shows and will not be available anywhere else [including etsy]. details about locations, dates and time will be posted soon… in the meantime, i’m hunkering down in my studio for some serious art-time and you probably won’t hear too much from me in the next few days/weeks.  i’ll update when i can =)

I NEVER post photos of myself. Well, rarely. But today… in honor of the first NEW pair of glasses I’ve had in 5 years, I decided to share my goofy face with you.

CAUTION: The following image may cause seizures!

Nice glasses huh? Gotta love what spending $700CAD will get ya!
Mind you, our health benefits through work will pay me back for $500 - so $200 really ain’t that bad.

BC Day at Steveston Waterpark
posted by: admin in Uncategorized on 08 6th, 2007 | | 1 Comment »

This is how I spent the better part of Monday afternoon. Sweet!

Today is BC Day, a provincial holiday and since it turned into such afternoon [everyone was off work and school today], we decided to hit the new Steveston Waterpark for some summer fun. We arrived at the park in the mid-afternoon with our close friends Joyce, Percy and their two girls Alison and Lauryn [two of my FAVORITE photo subjects].

The girlies had a great time and I got to take lots of pics… Love that Ali is actually LETTING me photograph her now. She used to hide behind her hands, but now that she’s FIVE, she’s all about posing and having fun. Love these kids… so much!

Letterpress Yumminess!

i truly love font, typography and letterpress oriented posters and graphics.

as a graphic designer, i’m  thinking ‘graphically’ nearly 24/7 and these images are happy and productive [even seductive!] representations of one of my greatest obsessions. i hope you catch a bit of excitement from them as i do… i love me some old wooden typesetting blocks!

for me, letterpress is like a good dog; it is designer’s best friend and always there when needed.
sit. stay. good font!
